Overview

Bulk hardening is a heat treatment technique used to increase the hardness and strength of metal throughout its entire volume, not just the surface. This process is essential for components that require high durability and resistance to wear under heavy loads.

How It Works

The metal is heated to a high temperature (above its critical point) and then rapidly cooled, usually by quenching in water, oil, or air. This transforms the internal structure of the metal, creating a harder and stronger material. Unlike surface hardening, bulk hardening affects the entire cross-section of the part.
